Buying a new home can be a daunting experience, especially in a country where you’re not familiar with either the buying process or the language. British-Owned Property Abroad is a UK-based company with predominantly British vendors, UK-based legal representatives and english-speaking partner agents that specialise in assisting international buyers purchase property in Portugal and Madeira.  You can have a greater level of confidence throughout the buying process as English will be the primary language.

Where possible, we ask all our vendors to complete an information pack for their property, the idea being that you have a comprehensive manual, in English, that explains how the house works, recommendations for local services and suppliers and any interesting social groups in the area.  We aim to make you feel at home from the moment you collect the keys. 

Our team are here to help you every step of the way, from your very first enquiry, right up until you’re comfortably settled into your new home (and all the nitty-gritty in between). We do everything possible to ensure that the buying process is as transparent and stress-free as possible.  Before you travel to Portugal on a property viewing trip, we recommend getting in touch so you have the right advice to hand should you want to make an offer on a property.

Sellers

You’ll notice that we’re different. We take a proactive approach to selling. Our marketing is targeted and we have a significant online presence. If you have a property in Portugal or Madeira you wish to sell and would like to see it actively and enthusiastically marketed, please get in touch.

By marketing your property with us, we help make sure that all the unique selling features of your property and the surrounding area are highlighted.  Our aim is for your property advert stand out from the rest in the online property marketing world.

As well as promotion of properties on our own website, our internet-based advertising is extensive and includes use of all of the most important internet property portals. We also send out weekly property updates to our database of active buyers.

We market our properties primarily towards an english-speaking audience and we work closely with UK-based international lawyers that handle all of the administration of the sale, so we use english, wherever possible, as the primary language through the transaction.  As a team, we do all we can to ensure that the sale is as transparent and stress-free as possible.

Foreign Exchange

For foreign exchange and international money transfer, British-Owned Property Abroad recommend Frontier Pay. 

If you are making international transfers through your own bank, the chances are they will not only be charging you a substantial fee for the service but will also be doing so at a poor exchange rate. Frontier Pay are specialist foreign exchange brokers. By dealing directly in the currency markets, they miss out the middlemen and get you as close to the 'interbank' rate as is possible.

Independently rated 5/5 by Trustpilot, they can typically save you 3-4% of the total transaction value by comparison with High Street banks.

Established in 1998, BCP provides legal services in Portugal, Spain and Morocco for individuals, businesses and professional advisers.  BCP have an office and legal team based in central London with a head office in Spain.  They have the resources and expertise to help British clients navigate international conveyancing and property law but also deal with any other issues, should they arise, in legal jurisdictions abroad.
